Facebook Expectations Are All Wrong

Author: emily | Filed under: Increasing Web Traffic

Created a Facebook account and still nothing?

It’s a big club, so don’t feel alone … but that won’t help you turn it all around.  First of all look at the effort you put in to it, did you just go create friendships with existing friends and family?  Don’t get me wrong, there isn’t anything wrong with that except for they are probably not your target audience and definitely can’t maintain your income needed.

Facebook requires human interaction as well, even if that interaction is through yet another cyber connection.  An example is linked in, a lot of people use this tool to find potential customers that are already showing interest in your stuff.  Then invite them to join your Facebook and get to know each other a little.

Another example, on your Facebook page start asking fairly general questions and begin watching which of your “friends” begin to comment.  Now you have started to build a relationship, and as you provide resource information in your updates they will be far more interested.  And watch how many of your more personal types of posts they comment on or mark as “like”, this too will show you they ARE watching and there is a connection.

This is just a brief introduction, but it does cover the biggest problem users are having in their own expectations of Facebook!  Use the comment section to let me know what you have experienced with Facebook:

I just want to say one thing, if your site is not getting sales or lead conversions from how wever much traffic you have right now, then getting more traffic is NOT going to fix the problem.

Why?

Because the problem is that the current site is not convincing your visitors to make a transaction … once you fix tha problem, THEN you need to go after additional traffic.  It is a simple concept but one that eludes every client I’ve ever worked with, everyone just wants more website visitors.  I stop every single one of them and go back to the basics.

Here is a short list of items you can check against the website for increasing conversions:

  1. Do you have a call-to-action?
  2. Is that call-to-action above the fold so it is seen first?
  3. Is the contact phone number prominent in the top right corner?
  4. Have you built any desire to want your product or service?
  5. Are you focusing on features in your website copy, or benefits?  You need to focus on the benefits of each feature.

Address all of these areas and keep tweaking them until you are starting to get conversions … go get ‘em!
